Christmas Gift

Christmas Gift

by Valerie Millar

It was Christmas morning slow and relaxed

When my four-legged children Sandy and Max

Began playing and sharing,

with their toys,

while I was throwing up on the floor.

It wasn’t long before Sandy got both toys stuck in her mouth

While Max sat quietly next to me on the couch.

And after a while she gave one back

And they played, jumped and ran, calming my stomach and bringing Joy back to our house.

Around noon I went to give thanks to our Lord and pray

At Peking Garden on this Christmas day.

There was no waiting, a full house

I ordered my usual, enjoying the season, surrounded by families eating in this house.

There was a family sitting near telling stories with laughter and cheer.

I smiled, shared glances and watched them enjoying their beer.

After they left, the returned to say

They had paid for my meal

I asked what the hay?

She said with a sweet smile they wanted to do it because I was alone today.

As tears swelled in my eyes, I knew it was a gift from our Lord!

A gift of pure love

between two strangers, straight from above!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
